Philip Meldman, Esq.
Philip Meldman graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis
University in 1966. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1969 and
was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1970.
Before entering private mediation practice, Mr. Meldman was in private
law practice, emphasizing business and entertainment law, a partner in a
real estate investment company, a corporate business affairs executive,
and a motion picture and record producer.
A full time professional mediator, Mr. Meldman entered private mediation
practice in 1992 and founded the Southern California Mediation Group. He
mediates throughout the United States cases involving complex
commercial, international, entertainment, media, internet, and new media
transactions; copyright infringement, trademark infringement, right of
publicity, trade secrets, unfair competition, and other intellectual
property issues; wrongful termination, employment discrimination (Title
VII, ADEA, ADA & FEHA), sexual harassment, retaliation, overtime
compensation, and numerous other employment and workplace conflict
issues; real estate buyer/seller; residential developer/buyer; real
estate broker/client; homeowner association; commercial and residential
landlord/tenant; commercial and residential construction defects and
other real estate disputes; bad faith issues and other insurance
coverage matters; professional malpractice; attorney/client fee dispute;
partnership dissolution; shareholder disputes; business tort; trade
libel; defamation, rights of privacy, wrongful death, products
liability, premises liability, automobile, property, and numerous other
tort claims; civil rights, government tort, land use, eminent domain,
inverse condemnation, nuisance and other public sector issues; and
maritime law matters.
Mr. Meldman served as an appointed member of the State Bar of California
ADR Committee from 2000-2003 and is a member of the Los Angeles
Copyright Society and the ABA Dispute Resolution Section. He drafted and
was instrumental in the passage of the 1996 amendment to California
Evidence Code 1152.5 regarding the confidentiality of a mediation
consultation. Mr. Meldman served as a guest lecturer at Stanford Law
School, is a national speaker on the subject of mediation, and presents
MCLE workshops on mediation. Mr. Meldman served as Chairman of the
Traffic & Transportation Commission for the City of Calabasas.
